As a result of the high demand for lung transplants and the difficulty of preserving these organs, there is a severe lack of available organs. Perhaps new research using some unexpected tools can change that. Science Advances has published a paper on the findings.Over 4,600 lung transplants are carried out worldwide each year, with almost half taking place in North America. These transplants can be a crucial option for patients with various respiratory diseases, but there are still many limitations that prevent more widespread use of the procedure. The demand for these transplants has also increased, in part because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and many people still die waiting for a lung transplant.
