How should people regard artificial intelligence, or AI, in robots? In order to determine how youngsters aged four to eleven treated the well-known household robots Alexa and Roomba, a team of researchers conducted a psychological analysis comparing the two groups of robotic assistants. The study’s lead author, Teresa Flanagan, a visiting PhD student in Duke University’s Early Childhood Cognition Lab, said the show “Westworld” on HBO’s depictions of human-robot interactions largely inspired her research.”In Westworld and the movie Ex Machina, we see how adults might interact with robots in these very cruel and horrible ways,” said Flanagan, a visiting scholar in the department of psychology & neuroscience at the University of California, Berkeley.
