Before it abruptly fell on May 3, 2003, the elderly Man of the Mountain on Cannon Cliff was a granite rock formation that, when viewed from a particular angle, appeared to be an elderly man. It was one of the most popular destinations in New Hampshire. Matthew Maclay, a master’s student at Dartmouth College studying geological and earth sciences/geosciences, has created a new online interactive 3D model that aims to digitally restore this once-great natural treasure.”People continue to have a very emotional connection to the Old Man of the Mountain—the state emblem of New Hampshire, so I am really excited that this 3D model will provide the public with an opportunity to learn more about this natural wonder.
