Sushrut Karmarkar is a PhD candidate in his fifth year at Purdue University’s School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. His research focuses on structures and materials. Sushrut, who hails from the Indian city of Aurangabad in the state of Maharashtra, earned a mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree from the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University there in 2016 and a master’s degree in aerospace, aeronautical, and astronautical engineering (AAE) from Purdue University in 2018.“Grad school is a place where you learn what research is about in a setting where it is okay to fail and where you have real responsibilities, but you also have an advisor who helps you achieve them,” Sushrut tells Labroots.
