Researchers from Binghamton University and the Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) of the U.S. Department of Energy recently worked together on a study that was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences to investigate oxidation reactions that may one day improve clean energy solutions.Professor of mechanical engineering at the State University of New York’s Binghamton University is Dr. Guangwen Zhou. In order to conduct the study, the researchers used spectroscopy to track the reduction of carbon monoxide oxidation while simultaneously observing hydrogen oxidation of peroxides on the surface of copper oxide.In both catalysis and corrosion science, copper is one of the most researched and important surfaces, according to materials scientist Dr. Anibal Boscoboinik.
