The next generation of organic-inorganic materials that can enhance the quality of images created by CT scans, X-ray machines, and other imaging and radiation detection technologies are examined in a new study that was published in Advanced Materials. This research, which was initiated by a 2018 study by the same research team, has the potential to improve scintillators, devices that can transform high energy radiation into near- or visible light. “Reducing the radioluminescence decay lifetime of scintillators to nanoseconds is an important breakthrough,” said Dr. Biwu Ma, who is a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida State University (FSU).
