Can we monitor environmental sites with artificial intelligence (AI) utilizing remote sensing photos from satellites or drones? In a recent study, a group of researchers investigated how coral reef halos, also known as sand halos and grazing halos, may now be monitored from space using newly developed deep learning algorithms, which is a sort of AI. The work was just published in Remote Sensing of Environment, and it aims to address this issue. This study, whose authors are from the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), may assist scientists in using AI as a conservation tool for recognizing and following the formation and evolution of coral reef halos, which are frequently caused by herbivore and predator populations feeding on the coral reefs.
