Breaking up is one of the most painful experiences we as loving and caring human beings have to endure. Most of us have been there or will find ourselves there at one point or other in our lives. With that said, it doesn’t have to be debilitating. In fact it can be invigorating! You have a fresh start at a brand new life and the hope for a new and better love! It’s not going to be easy to go from heartbreak to happiness without a positive attitude and some hard work on your part to truly let go and move forward. A few helpful tips will get you well on your way to feeling better and starting a brand new beautiful life.
1. Acceptance
Accept that the relationship is over. Don’t spend your time thinking about what was, what could have been or fantasize about getting back together. The relationship ended for a reason and the sooner you accept that it’s over the sooner you can move forward.
2. Let it all out
Cry, scream into a pillow, and cry some more. Call up a family member, a friend, or anyone else who will listen as you pour out your heart and soul to release all the pain, anger and frustration.
3. Don’t
Do not call him/her, text, email, call his/her friends etc. Don’t go by his/her work or home, etc. If you do these things you’re setting yourself up to start back from day one of your heartbreak. Make a clean break and move forward.
4. Get busy
Do something, anything to keep your mind off of him/her. It doesn’t matter if it’s just cleaning house, yard work, working on a hobby, or whatever. Just get up and get busy. The more down time you have the more time you have to think about the breakup which is exactly what you want to avoid doing.
5. Take care of yourself
During a breakup is a time we may find ourselves so engrossed in the pain that the last thing we end up doing is taking care of what matters most, ‘ourselves’, but it’s the first thing we should be doing at all times. Eat right, exercise, dress to impress, get your hair done, get a massage or whatever suits you to make ‘you’ feel better.
6. Out with the old
Clear out anything in your place that reminds you of your ex. You don’t need the constant reminders of your pain. If you can’t bring yourself to toss it into the trash, box it up, and put it somewhere out of sight. Delete his/her number, old texts, voice messages, and emails. It’s time to clear out the old and make way for the new.
7. In with the new
Now that you’ve come this far it’s time to try new things. Go places you didn’t go with your ex. Do things you’ve never done before. Make new memories for yourself either alone or with the company of good friends and family. Open your heart back up to allow new love in. It’s all about you now so embrace it!
Tips: If you feel you’ve done everything you can to get over your breakup and nothing seems to be working then never be afraid to seek professional help.
