A new study examined how astronauts’ red blood cells and bone density can be affected by microgravity, but can be restored upon return to Earth from the International Space Station (ISS) by bone marrow fat. This research may aid in the better understanding of the effects of reduced gravity on the human body both in space and upon return to Earth by scientists and future astronauts. Additionally, NASA is getting ready to send astronauts back to the Moon with the Artemis missions, which will be the first time since Apollo 17 in 1972.Dr. Guy Trudel reported, “We discovered that astronauts had significantly less fat in their bone marrow about a month after returning to Earth.”
